Introduction
Using Set Question, variables can be grouped into a single question. These can be part of an existing question or sometimes not combined at all. Using Set Question, you can manually override the automatic grouping of variables into questions that occurs when setting up projects automatically in Q.
This is also useful when adding new variables to an existing question.
Method
- Go to the Variables and Questions tab.
- Select/highlight the variables that you wish to group into a question, holding down Ctrl if they are not adjacent.
- Right-click and select Set Question.
- Enter a question Name.
- Select the appropriate Question Type.
- Click OK.
You may be given different options on ensuing dialog boxes based on the Question Type selected.
Note that If the default Question Type selected by Q using the automatic setup does not appear to be appropriate, this often indicates a problem with the data or the metadata. The most common problem will relate to labels that have been automatically tidied by Q; if this is the cause of the problem, press Cancel, right-click and select Revert to Source and then right-click and select Set Question again.
