When accessing the Value Attributes dialog, there's a button on the lower left called Recode Rules. It allows you to recode a question's values using a set of rules. This can be faster than editing the values manually when your question has many values.
To get to this dialog box:
- Open the Value Attributes dialog box.
- Press Recode Rules.
To add each rule:
- Click the + button to create a new rule.
- Use the controls in Source Value to specify the original values that will be remapped. If the lower Range box is blank all values up to and including the value specified in the higher box are recoded. If the upper Range box is blank all values up above and including the value specified in the lower box are recoded.
- Use the controls in New Value to specify what these values will be mapped to.
Observe the effect of all your rules under Preview of your rules.
