Q's statistical tests take into account the structure of the underlying data, options in Statistical Assumptions for the project and for the individual table or chart, and Rules. This article describes how to work out which tests are being used on a given table:
Method
To work out which tests are being used on a given table:
- Check the Rules tab to see if the statistical tests have been overwritten by any rules. If there is no rules tab, then Q's statistical tests have not been overwritten by any rules. Usually, the names of the rules will give you an indication of whether they influence statistical testing, although it is possible for users to create Custom Rules and for the names of these custom rules to be uninformative.
- If there are no rules, and Show significance is set to Arrows, Font colors, or Arrows and font colors, right-click on a cell in the table, and select Test statistical significance. The name of the test will be shown in the output window. Note that Multiple Comparison Corrections are also applied after the shown test is computed.
- If there are no rules, and Show significance is set to Compare columns, select Font colors or Arrows and font colors, select two cells in the same row of the table which are currently being compared (i.e., which are in the same Span and do not show -), right-click and select Test statistical significance. The name of the test will be shown in the outputs. The name of the test will be shown in the outputs. Note that Multiple Comparison Corrections are also applied after the shown test is computed.
