Introduction
Questionnaires sometimes collect data in two stages, where the first asks something like "which one brand comes to mind first" and another question asks the user for other responses ("and which other brands do you know"). For example, this is commonly used when collecting top of mind awareness and prompted/aided awareness.
Requirements
Data is set up so the first variable contains the first brand mentioned, the second variable contains the second brand mentioned, etc.
Methods
The best way to address this depends upon how the data has been setup.
One variable per response
- Select all the related variables in the Variables and Questions tab.
- Right-click and select Set Question.
- Set the Question Type to Pick Any - Compact. The resulting question will contain all the mentions.
If you wish to also have a question which shows the top of mind response, select the first variable, right-click and select Copy and Paste Variable(s) > Exact Copy.
A Pick One question for the first response and a Pick Any Question for other mentions
- Select all the related variables in the Variables and Questions tab.
- Right-click and select Insert Ready-Made Formula(s) > Merge Questions.
This needs the labels of the brands to be identical so that it can match them up.
