Variables can be selected in the Variables and Questions Tab by clicking on the row numbers (typical window operations apply – holding down your left mouse button and dragging, Shift and Ctrl). When you right-click on selected variable(s) the following options will be available (if applicable):
Convert Formula to Fixed Data Creates a new variable using the output of the selected formula variable. The new variable will not change when the formula variable or anything it depends on changes. Warning: If your raw data changes, or new cases are added, then this variable may contain wrong data or missing values.
Edit Code Frame Opens the Coding dialog box.
New Comment for Variable Attach a free-form note to a variable.
Edit Money Symbol Opens a dialog that allows you to select the symbol that is displayed before money values in the Outputs Tab.
Trace Dependencies - Used By Selects all variables that use the variable(s) that are currently selected.
Trace Dependencies - Calculated Using Selects all variables that used by the variable(s) that are currently selected.
- Copy and Paste Variable(s) - Linked Copy
- Copy and Paste Variable(s) - Exact Copy
- Copy and Paste Question(s) - Linked Copy
- Copy and Paste Question(s) - Exact Copy
Paste Labels Pastes text from the clipboard into the selected cells of the Label column.
Export Variables to Excel Exports the data for the selected variable(s) to Excel.
Delete Copied or Constructed Variable(s) Deletes selected variables if they have been copied or constructed.
Revert to Source Reverts a variable's Values and Label to its Source settings, and splits the variable off from its question.
Revert to Source Label Reverts a variable's Label to its Source Label.
Split Variables From Question Splits off the selected variables from their questions, and creates new questions for each single variable. Retains all other settings, unlike Revert to Source.
Search/Replace Variable Labels Change the labels of multiple variables by a single operation.
Search/Replace Variable Names Change the names of multiple variables by a single operation.
Search/Replace Question Names Change the names of multiple questions by a single operation.
Search/Replace Constructed Variable Expressions Change the expression (programming code) for multiple constructed numeric or text variables by a single operation.
